Firefox 2.0 Product Planning Draft published

The product roadmap for the next release of Firefox 2.0 is already here, and after the latest release of Firefox 1.5 the development team now focus to continue its progress making Firefox the better browsing experience. Firefox 2.0 is planned for June 2006 (a tentative date, subject to finalizing the roadmap) and the main features/todo for the next release ordered by priority are :

  • Tabbed browsing UI improvements & defaults
  • Fully integrated RSS functionality
  • Extension Manager enhancements
  • Search Engine UI improvements (add/remove/options)
  • Platform patch uplift
  • Anti-phishing
  • Visual refresh, "native theme" support
  • Browser status indication system & UI
  • aviary-2.0 blockers (bugfix & UI polish)
  • Session saver
  • Extension uplift
  • Autocomplete enhancements
  • Offline mode detection & better use of cache
  • In-line spell check
  • Instrumentation / exit surveys
  • Pluggable Download Manager
Firefox 2 will aim to build on the success of Firefox by addressing issues related to the problem of managing the vast amounts of information available on the Internet. Our goal is to provide a browser that helps users manage and organize their online information channels.
